Amazon Denies That It Will Start Accepting Crypto Payments

Amazon has rejected recent rumors which claimed that it was preparing to support Bitcoin payments.

According to a spokesperson for the company, Amazon does have an interest in the crypto industry, but it hasn’t created any exact plans for digital payments for now:

“Notwithstanding our interest in the space, the speculation that has ensued around our specific plans for cryptocurrencies is not true.”

The spokesperson didn’t deny the idea that Amazon is doing research on crypto payments: “We remain focused on exploring what this could look like for customers shopping on Amazon.”

A week ago, Amazon posted a job for a digital currency and blockchain product lead. Days later, an anonymous insider was quoted as saying that the company is “definitely” getting ready to offer support for Bitcoin payments and even launch its own native token.

These rumors are seen as the cause for why Bitcoin rose in price these days, going past the $40,000 mark. But, as the rumors were denied, the price began to fall again – at the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading for $36,770, falling by 4.4% across 24 hours.
