As Part of the COVID-19 Prevention Initiative, Chicago Will Allow Vaccinated Youths to Mint NFTs of Themselves

The Face Forward Project, a COVID-19 prevention initiative centered on immunization, is minting NFT tokens of immunized teenagers.

The campaign is intended to reward young individuals who have immunized themselves against COVID-19, according to a Chicago government release. Teens can have their portrait minted onto a one-of-a-kind NFT that they can keep or resell on the secondary market.

Teens who choose to participate will get NFTs from the NFT multimedia platform VAST, which will include an excerpt from work by Chicago-based musician Keith Harris.

While NFTs had previously been used to supplement charitable donations, this looks to be one of the first instances of digital collectibles being used to reward public health actions, particularly those aimed at combating the coronavirus outbreak.

However, with the popularity of move-to-earn platform STEPN, a blockchain-based gamified step platform that motivates users to walk or run, NFTs have steadily seeped into the health and lifestyle spaces.
