It has been confirmed that a piece of virtual land in the NFT game Axie Infinity was sold for a record price of 550 Ether (around $2.4 million) on Wednesday.
The plot is part of the “Genesis” land type, which is known as one of the “extremely rare” ones. Genesis land can be found in the center of the Axie Infinity map and it includes 220 plots.
The seller of the said piece of land is known as “ArcaChemist,” while the buyer is known as “Lunacian #789512.”
The game Axie Infinity includes several types of land, like Arctic and Mystic, which all put together are known as Lunacia. Lunacia represents the homeland for the fantasy creatures found in the game that are needed if you wish to play properly. The creatures bear the name of Axies.
Axie Infinity lets people play in order to earn tokens known as small love potions (SLP) that can later be exchanged for other cryptos or for cash.
According to a spokesperson for Axie Infinity, Axie land has “has entertainment value, social value, and economic value in the form of future resource flows, and this is why we are seeing such sales.”
Back in February, news was made when nine plots of land on Axie Infinity were sold for more than 888 ETH (about $1.5 million back then, but around $4 million in current prices).
