Block Production by the Solana Network Has Been Halted

On Wednesday, the Solana network paused block production once more. This is the ninth time the Solana blockchain network has experienced a halt.

Validator operators are being asked to prepare for a restart, according to a Solana status update provided on Twitter. According to an official tweet on the Solana halt:

“Block production on Solana Mainnet Beta has halted. Validator operators should prepare for a restart in mb-validators on Discord.”

A set of instructions for mainnet beta validators was included in a later tweet shared by the team. It stated:

“Mainnet Beta Validators: Please follow the restart instructions linked below, and upgrade 1.9.x to 1.9.28 – If you are on 1.10.x please upgrade to 1.10.23″

The Solana network has previously experienced many disruptions. The network was idle for nearly 10 hours in September of last year when the blockchain nodes went offline due to excessive memory usage.

Binance reported congestion on the SOL network earlier this year in January. As a result, the network’s throughput was lowered to tens of thousands of transactions per second. Withdrawals on the exchange via the Solana network were disrupted by the outage, which resulted in unsuccessful transactions.

Despite its recent difficulties, the network has performed admirably in the NFT market. Solana’s NFT sales volume increased significantly, according to recent data from crypto analytics site Messari.

As a result, by the end of the quarter, it had surpassed Ethereum to become the second-largest protocol.

Solana’s price plummeted as a result of the network failure. According to CoinMarketCap, the coin is currently trading at $40.59, down 11.24% in the previous 24 hours. SOL currently has a market capitalization of $13 billion and a rank of 9.

Meanwhile, crypto experts have questioned the network’s frequent outages. They even highlighted concerns about the network’s decentralized character. “The Solana (SOL) network has been globally halted,” tweeted an analyst who goes by the handle Nick. “How can we call this decentralized?” says the narrator.
