China has officially released the digital wallet pilot for the digital yuan on iOS and Android platforms as the public is waiting for the launch of the country’s own CBDC.
China was one of the countries in the world to start working on its own CBDC all the way back in 2014.
BlockBeats, a local digital media platform, tweeted that the trial version is now available to download and to navigate through it in order to understand how it works.
“This App is the official service platform of China’s CBDC for individual users to carry out pilot trials, providing e-CNY personal wallet opening and management, e-CNY exchange and circulation services.”
The development work was finished at the end of 2019 but the government still hasn’t confirmed an official launch for the public. So far, the CBDC was used in several trials across the country with millions in e-CNY being airdropped for people to test.
Many are hoping that China will finally release its e-CNY this year and that the pilot version of the digital wallet is an indicator of this.
