Chipotle US Stores Will Now Accept Crypto

Chipotle, the iconic Mexican fast-food company, will now accept bitcoin payments using Flexa, a digital payment platform.

Flexa accepts 98 different currencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. Customers may use the app to pay for food at any of Chipotle’s approximately 3000 locations around the US.

Customers must first download the Gemini or SPEDN apps, which both hold digital assets, in order to pay with Flexa. Customers can then use the app to make a payment in-store by tapping it.

Chipotle is the latest addition to a growing list of establishments that take crypto. Subway was one of the first businesses to accept Bitcoin in its stores, starting in 2013. In 2020, Pizza Hut in Venezuela began taking crypto. Starbucks’ reward members are allowed to use a third-party program to convert crypto amounts to cash on the Starbucks app.

Other fast-food businesses are experimenting with blockchain and crypto in different ways in order to create hybrid digital-physical experiences. Taco Bell, KFC, and Carl’s Jr. are just a handful of the restaurants that have lately applied for NFT brand trademarks.
