Christie’s Auction Sees Gary Vaynerchuk Doodle Outselling Warhol, Pollock, and Neel

A doodle of an elephant created by Gary Vaynerchuk was sold for $412,500 at a Christie’s auction today. The name of the creation is “Emphatic Elephant.”

This means that Vaynerchuk outsold iconic names such as Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Alice Neel, Wayne Thiebaud, and George Condo.

The drawing represented the basis for Vaynerchuk’s VeeFriends NFT collection. Several other of his physical drawings were also included, such as “Tremendous Tiger” and “Gratitude Gorilla.”

The drawings were the beginning of Vaynerchuk’s NFT journey but, in this case, they were sold as actual physical copies, not as NFTs. He declared the experience of outselling such big names as being “uncomfortable” and “humbling.”

He said:

“It’s almost an out-of-body experience. I’m less worried about me, in that equation, and more thinking about how lucky I am to be in this moment in time when the world is changing.”
