Christie’s Will Accept ETH in an Upcoming Digital Art Sale

The internationally famous British auction house Christie’s has announced plans that will involve crypto. According to a report published yesterday, Christie’s will accept Ether as payment for a digital art auction that will take place sometime in the future. The art was created by digital artist Mike Winkelmann aka Beeple.

The artwork bears the name “EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS,” and it represents a collage of thousands of pieces created previously by the artist. It seems that Beeple has been working on this piece of digital art for 13 years now. Christie’s art specialist in post-war and contemporary art, Noah Davis, has described the piece as “epic.”

The auction house will accept payment in ETH, but this would only cover the principal price of the artwork. Therefore, the buyer will also need to pay the piece’s premium, a fee the auction house charges on the artwork’s sale price. This will be done in US dollars.

“We’re at this precipice where crypto is going to be such a more established and mainstream mode of conducting business. With this [sale], I think it’s the perfect way to dip our toes in and give this a shot.” – Noah Davis.

This clearly shows that even the firm auction house is tapping into the crypto sphere.

Winkelmann has 1.8 million followers on Instagram. Davis believes that the auction price will start somewhere between £0.73 and several thousand pounds.
