Christie’s Will Auction off a Collection of Nine Cryptopunks in May

Iconic auction house Christie’s plans to sell a collection of nine CryptoPunks – considered by many to be the first NFT projects that were released on the Ethereum blockchain – in a sale that will take place in May.

The auction is part of the 21st Century Evening Sale that will take place in New York, on May 13th. CryptoPunk founders Matt Hall and John Watkinson will sell the nine CryptoPunks from their very own collections.

“Taken together, the set represents both the rarest possible CryptoPunks and highlights from the variety of attributes that are the signature of the project,” Hall and Watkinson declared in a statement that was published by the auction house.

As it happened for the recent Beeple NFT sale, Christie’s will also accept bids and payments in the form of Ether.

“The CryptoPunks are the alpha and omega of the CyptoArt movement. This is a historic sale,” Christie’s art specialist Noah Davis commented in a statement.

Initially released in June 2017 by software company Larva Labs, CryptoPunks is made out of a collection of 24×24 8-bit-style pixel images, which totals 10,000 unique collectible characters with different characteristics, traits, and accessories.
