Theater chain AMC seems to be working on a plan that would let it issue its very own cryptocurrency, according to the CEO of the company, Adam Aron.
Aron declared:
“There are a lot of reasons why AMC could be a successful issuer of cryptocurrency as well as a redeemer of cryptocurrency. That’s just one of half a dozen ideas that we’re working on right now.”
Earlier this month, the theater chain confirmed that it would accept Dogecoin payments online for gift cards using BitPay. This led to the price of Doge to increase, although it eventually began to drop again. Doge is now worth $0.24, meaning it is up 5% over the previous seven days, but still down by 66% from the ATH of $0.73 which was seen in May.
The company has also confirmed that it will accept payments in BTC by the end of 2021, with plans for other cryptos, like Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin, to follow.
