Crusoe Energy Diverts Natural Gas From Oil Drilling Sites to Power Its Mining Operation

As the conversation regarding the impact on the environment from Bitcoin mining continues, Denver-based Crusoe Energy made the headlines as it relies on energy from flare gas in order to mine Bitcoin.

By harnessing flare gas energy, Crusoe Energy has managed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than half, which would be the equivalent of removing about 1,700 cars from the road.

Crusoe Energy installed piping systems that divert natural gas into generators which are then powering the Bitcoin mining operations. In other circumstances, oil companies would burn off the natural gas that is found by accident at oil drilling sites. Since the company made its debut, its efforts have registered a 1 billion cubic feed reduction in flaring.

The company has units in several states, including North Dakota, Montana, and Colorado, which makes Crusoe one of the largest Bitcoin mining operations on the North American continent.
