Crypto-Curious Andy Jassy Will Become the New CEO of Amazon After Jeff Bezos Steps Down

Amazon made a pretty big announcement today – CEO and founder of the company, Jeff Bezos, will step down as CEO of the company. His replacement will be Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy, who also supervised Amazon’s crypto product offerings.

In a letter sent to his employees, Bezos stated that he would become the executive chair of the Amazon board and thus “focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives.” The change will take place later this year.

Bezos has also mentioned that Jassy “will be an outstanding leader, and has my full confidence.”

The eyes of the entire crypto world now will turn to Jassy as they hope he will embrace blockchain technology.

Back in 2017, Jassy had a mixed opinion regarding blockchain technology and how it can be applied to the Amazon business model. He had doubts that blockchain can be used for anything else but as a “distributed ledger.” He also mentioned that company policy doesn’t allow them to “build technology [just] because we think it is cool.”

Still, he didn’t completely shut off the idea of blockchain, adding that “We are very intrigued by what customers are ultimately going to do there.”
