The company behind NBA Top Shot and the Flow blockchain, Dapper Labs, has just closed a $250 million funding round, which was confirmed yesterday.
The raise was led by Coatue. Other important names were Version One Ventures, Google’s GV, and Andreessen Horowitz. It seems that Dapper Labs registered a $7.6 billion valuation.
In an interview with CoinDesk, the CEO of Dapper Labs, Roham Gharegozlou, declared:
Gharegozlou thinks that NFTs will become “the currency of fandom” and that this raise will help extend the operations of the NBA Top Shot plus create new sports ventures worldwide, such as European soccer.
The news comes only a day after soccer NFT giant Sorare managed to raise $680 million.
Gharegozlou commented:
Furthermore, Dapper Labs has also confirmed the beginning of a collaboration with LaLiga, the top professional soccer league in Spain, in order to release a soccer marketplace. The marketplace is said to include digital collectibles from the 20 teams of the league, such as Barcelona and Real Madrid.
