Dogecoin and Ether Added as Payment Options for Latvian Airline airBaltic

Passengers of the Latvian airline airBaltic can now pay with more crypto!

The announcement was revealed yesterday on the company’s website. Passengers can now buy plane tickets with Ether, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, USD Coin, Binance USD, Gemini Dollar, and Paxos Standard (the last four are US dollar-pegged stablecoins).

The airline has accepted crypto as payment since 2014, but it has been limited only to Bitcoin. This made the company the first airline on the globe that allowed crypto payment options.

The announcement also mentioned that ticket prices wouldn’t be denominated in the supported cryptocurrencies. The prices will continue to be displayed in euros, while the conversion of digital currency to fiat when the ticket is bought is handled by BitPay.

“As an innovative airline, we always strive to search for ways to improve the customer experience starting from the booking process. Over the years around 1,000 clients have used the payment option, which may not seem like a lot, but still offers passengers a unique payment option hard to find elsewhere,” said the CEO of airBaltic, Martin Gauss.

Crypto is indeed having a moment as it is beginning to be accepted and used more and more in the tourism industry, from travel agencies to airlines and hotels.
