Ethereum 2.0 Staking Reaches $21 Billion With ‘Merge’ on the Horizon

Ethereum 2.0 staking is now totaling 6.73 million ETH (worth around $21.2 billion), which means it pushed past the total amount of “wrapped Ethereum” on the network, shows data from blockchain analytics company Nansen.

This increased volume of staked ETH shows that Ethereum users believe in the developers’ ability to create the long-awaited Ethereum 2.0 when the current PoW blockchain of Ethereum is planned to “merge” with the PoS chain.

Unlike the typical crypto staking, staked Ethereum will be locked until that milestone is reached – it currently doesn’t have an exact date established, but it is most likely to take place in 2022.

Nansen data also showed that the exact source of around half of that staked ETH isn’t known. The largest known amount of ETH is staked on Kraken – 820,544 ETH. The top three is rounded up by Lido Finance with 762,272 ETH and Binance with 588,608 ETH.
