Facebook Goes Meta

Facebook is betting on the metaverse as being the future of its business, and it all became official when it announced its new company name: Meta.

Meta will represent the name of the entire company, but its apps and services, like Facebook itself or WhatsApp, will keep their names.

The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, declared:

“I think we’re basically moving from being Facebook first as a company to being metaverse first.”

For those who aren’t aware, metaverse refers to what some see as the way the Internet will evolve in the future in which 3D models of the apps or websites will be replacing the flat ones we currently use thus making interaction more immersive.

Facebook’s plan is to lead the way for this change as some weeks ago it confirmed it would invest $50 million into research and collaborations while also planning to hire 10,000 Europeans for the job.
