High School Students In the US State of Georgia May Soon Study Crypto

As part of a new financial literacy program, high school students in Georgia will begin studying crypto as part of the curriculum.

The news follows the bill passed by the Georgia House of Representatives that would ask the state board of education to offer a course on financial literacy to students that are in the tenth or eleventh grade. The bill mentions:

“The State Board of Education shall prescribe a program of study in personal financial literacy to be completed by students during high school,” and cites 16 areas of financial literacy. Among the topics, “cryptocurrency” is also mentioned.

The subject would be covered alongside concepts such as how to balance a checking account, complete a loan application, but also capital market investments, such as stocks and bonds.

The bill was passed by a vote of 169 – 2 on March 8th and was sponsored by six candidates from the Republican party. The bill was sent to the Senate for the necessary further deliberation.

Being Informed Is Everything

Financial literacy in the crypto-sphere is seen as highly important for the mainstream adoption of crypto globally.

Several surveys of market participants worldwide have shown that the majority of people who hold a negative view of crypto are usually the same people who have little to no real knowledge about it.

“I don’t know enough about it to have a positive opinion,” replied one US citizen, when she was asked why she held a “negative perception” regarding crypto in a recent survey by BitFlyer.

A study from the UK discovered that 55% of respondents didn’t have an interest in investing in crypto, even as its status grew to become more legitimate.

The Head of Capital Markets at ITI Capital, crypto investment expert Stephen Kelso, said: “Many traditional investors are still cautious of cryptocurrency’s volatility, and have been cautious about adding it to their investment portfolios. The nomenclature ‘crypto currency’ has deterred many who have perceived it to be anti-establishment.”
