Academy Award winner director, actor, and screenwriter Spike Lee, known worldwide for his movies that challenge the status quo and focus on the stories of those outside of the American mainstream, has directed and starred in a commercial for Coin Cloud, which operates digital kiosks where people have the option of investing in crypto.
According to an ad, Lee said: “Old money is not going to pick us up; it pushes us down. The digital rebellion is here.”
The commercial was filmed in several famous locations across New York, including Wall Street, this past month, and also features iconic drag queen Shangela and transgender actress Mj Rodriguez.
Although it hasn’t made its official debut yet, the commercial will focus on the power that a decentralized and permissionless monetary network, such as Bitcoin, is able to give people who traditional finance has pushed aside.
“If anyone’s known my body of work over the last four decades, you kind of know about the way I see the world, and when they approached me, it fit in line,” Lee told the Times.
