The Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, who is expected to win the title of NBA Rookie of the Year, is testing the world of NFTs.
He joined the NFT space a week ago when he released his debut capsule. The 10,000-piece collection was created in collaboration with Playground Studios and is powered by Ether Cards.
Thanks to Chainlink data oracles, Ether Cards’ dynamic NFTs are able to change their visual appearance by using the same technology that smart contracts use for on-chain actions.
“Should LaMelo win ROTY, these NFTs will evolve into a more powerful version, featuring the exclusive Gold Sun,” reads an announcement on the website created to sell the NFTs.
Evidently, the possibility of rarity has spiked interest in buyers.
Furthermore, each NFT is paired with opportunities to collect physical collectible items, like game tickets, access to exclusive fan merchandise, and memorabilia.
“A lot of people on my team are big on blockchain. I’m still wrapping my head around it all and playing in different metaverses – but the fact that we’re only in the [earliest] stages means there’s so much room for my NFTs to develop over time,” declared Ball.
