Lil Nas X Shares Video for New Song “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and Uses Bitcoin to Promote It

After teasing his fans for months, Lil Nas X has finally released his long-awaited new single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

The artist first previewed the song on Twitter and in various TikTok videos starting in the summer of 2020. The song was also previewed during the Super Bowl LV in February this year, with the artwork being released soon after. “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” was written by Lil Nas X (whose real name is Montero) and produced by Take a Day Trip, Omer Fedi, and Roy Lenzo.

This is Lil Nas X’s first single since “Holiday” in November 2020. He also confirmed that his also long-awaited debut album would be released this summer.

The music video was released at the same time and features references to the Genesis creation narrative and Greek mythology. It was directed by both Lil Nas X and Tanu Muino.

Before releasing the song on Friday, Lil Nas X said that he had “waited 9 months” to release the song “because it’s my baby.” He also teased that the single signified the arrival of a “new era” for him.

In order to hype the song and video, even more, X announced he would give out $100,000 worth of BTC in a promotional event on Twitter.
