Major Venezuelan Satellite TV Provider Allows Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrencies Payments

Customers of the biggest satellite TV provider in Venezuela can now pay their monthly bills using crypto. Simple TV announced it had made the option available to all of its four million users.

The Company Doesn’t Want to Depend on the Fiat Dollar

According to the announcement, the provider began a partnership with Panamanian company Cryptobuyer, and Simple TV’s landing page is now presenting the option to make payments in crypto.

Customers can now send their payments in Bitcoin, Dash, Ethereum, Litecoin, Binance Coin, and Binance Dollar, or with Cryptobuyer’s native token, XPT.

Simple TV is owned by a Chilean investment fund and offers 300 TV channels, including several from important networks, such as HBO, Disney, and ESPN. Thanks to this, the satellite TV provider expects to “boost the usage of cryptocurrencies across Venezuela.”

The CEO of Cryptobuyer, Jorge Farias, commented:

“It is known that Simple TV reaches the most remote places of the country, imagine the importance of this, when it allows the possibility of accessing its service in places of the interior, for example, without having to have a dollar account or having to depend on an intermediary. It is an important step that even pays for the possibility of access to entertainment and information, even more, demanded by the confinement.”

Venezuela has been making the news for its problems with politics and the economy, but it has also registered a high level of crypto adoption among stores and service providers, with names such as Pizza Hut accepting several cryptocurrencies including bitcoin.
