Manchester City Is Building the Etihad Stadium in the Metaverse

Soccer team Manchester City and its partner, Sony, have started recreating the Etihad Stadium in the metaverse. It will serve as the team’s central hub in the network. Currently, the stadium is the home of Manchester City in real life.

Almost a week ago, the soccer team confirmed it began a three-year partnership with Sony meant for virtual reality.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic is still on, it is not as easy to get to the stadium in real life, but watching the game inside the metaverse may offer fans a chance to watch their favorite team in action.

Nuria Tarré, the Chief Marketing Officer for City Football Group, declared:

“The whole point we could imagine of having a Metaverse is you can recreate a game, you could watch the game live, you’re part of the action in a different way through different angles and you can fill the stadium as much as you want because it’s unlimited, it’s completely virtual.”

Manchester United has also taken the step towards Web3 on February 10th when it announced it is working with Tezos. Many speculate that Liverpool FC is next in making such an announcement.
