A generous donor has gifted Miami’s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICAM) a CryptoPunk NFT. The name of the artwork is CryptoPunk #5293, and it represents one of the 10,000 unique 24-by-24-pixel icons that were created by Larva Labs in 2017.
ICAM Trustee Eduardo Burillo was the one who made the surprise donation.
ICAM has confirmed that this digital collectible represents the first time an NFT becomes a part of a major art museum collection.
“CryptoPunk 5293 joins the ICA Miami collection as a work that is truly representative of the cultural zeitgeist and will have historic significance for generations to come.”
Since it is one of the earlier creations of Larva Labs, offers for it have ranged between $34,000 and $123,000.
