MoonPay Is Convincing Celebrities to Purchase NFTs

Crypto payments company MoonPay has silently begun a “concierge service” to aid celebrities with buying NFTs and cryptos. Jimmy Fallon, Lil Baby, and Post Malone are amongst its clients for the beta version of the service.

Both celebrities have recently spoken about the item they’ve bought from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection. Currently, they have a value of 43.9 ETH a piece which would be about $186,000.

Jimmy Fallon presented his Bored Ape #599 on Twitter earlier this month, saying “Permission to come a bored?” Just a day prior, as part of an interview with digital artist Beeple, he had mentioned that he used the help of MoonPay to buy the piece. Then again, MoonPay denies any commercial relationship with Fallon. The company says that Fallon is simply an early client of the concierge service offered by MoonPay.

This was described by the company as a “white glove service for high net worth individuals who want to purchase NFTs in the simplest way without all the hassle of setting up a wallet, buying crypto, using that crypto to purchase an NFT and then taking custody of it.”

Checking out the transaction history of the company on OpenSea, it seems that Lil Baby has also used the concierge service. He used Bored Ape #129 as a profile photo on Twitter, and the blockchain shows that that NFT was transferred to him by MoonPay in October.

On top of that, data from Etherscan indicates that also in October, MoonPay has sent four payments worth 325.1 ETH ($1.37 million) to a wallet that belongs to Post Malone. The company confirmed that the six-time Grammy nominee has used the concierge service in order to purchase crypto and NFTs.
