Newegg Now Accepts Dogecoin for Payments Via BitPay

Newegg, an online retailer, now has support for Dogecoin (DOGE) payments on its platform, which has significantly boosted the price of the meme token.

The announcement was made today via Twitter. The addition of DOGE represents an important boost to its usability as many continue to see it as a joke coin.

Newegg asked on Twitter if users would like DOGE support and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Dogecoin co-creator, Billy Markus, tweeted:

“Did you know @Newegg accepts Dogecoin to make purchases? So if anyone asks ‘What can you even buy with a meme currency?!’ you can respond something like “Well, TVs, computers, cameras, PlayStations, software, video games, tech accessories, appliances, furniture, smart home…”

Newegg is one of the first companies to take cryptos seriously, as in 2014, it began accepting BTC and, over time, it has added support for several others. The company operates in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East.

Dogecoin continues to increase in value even as other cryptos have taken a dive. During this past week, the cryptocurrency has grown by 400%.

Of course, some members of the crypto community aren’t too keen on the behavior of Dogecoin or its buyers as they think it is only a bubble that will pop and that new investors will lose money once that happens. Similarly, others feel that Dogecoin goes against the practical role of cryptocurrencies themselves, and there’s nothing to it aside hype.
