Q1 and Q2 2021 have registered record sales of NFTs.
According to DappRadar, the first sixth months of 2021 saw $2.5 billion in NFT sales which completely dwarfs the sales registered during the same time period in 2020 – only $13.7 million.
Reuters reported that June was a record month for the OpenSea NFT marketplace with around $150 million in sales. This is around 1,000% higher than the sales figures that were recorded by all markets across the first sixth months of 2020.
NonFungible.com reported between 10,000 and 20,000 buyers/week since the beginning of March.
The best-selling NFT is “Everydays: The First 500 Days” by Beeple which sold for $69 million at a Christie’s auction in March.
The most popular NFTs are collectibles and sports-related one. Around 300,000 sports-themed tokens were sold this year, so far, while art-related ones only registered 124,000 sales.
