The professional ice hockey team, San Jose Sharks, which is part of the National Hockey League (NHL), has begun a collaboration with payment processor BitPay so that it will start accepting various cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin.
Crypto can be used to buy season-ticket memberships and sponsorship deals, confirmed President Jonathan Becher. The option of using crypto will also be added to the official app of the hockey franchise.
Becher credits PayPal’s decision to work with crypto as an influence for the Sharks to enter the crypto sphere as well: “We’re accepting PayPal, so then by definition, we’re accepting cryptocurrency. Why not embrace it and make it more visible as opposed to just doing it through a third party?”
