Nvidia May Go Back to Producing GPUs for Crypto Mining

Nvidia has sold over $175 million worth of GPUs to ETH miners, and it has shown its interest in starting to do it again, as long as there is a demand for the products.

“If crypto demand begins or if we see a meaningful amount, we can also use that opportunity to restart the CMP product line to address ongoing mining demand,” declared Nvidia’s CFO Colette Kress, regarding the CMP offerings.

Still, Kress also mentioned that, as of now, there isn’t any notable increase in demand for such products, meaning Nvidia will continue to focus on its core audience, gamers.

“We don’t have visibility on how much of the RTX 30 Series end demand comes from mining,” Kress said. “So, we don’t believe it’s a big part of our business today. Gaming demand is very strong, and we think that’s larger than our current supply.”

With over US$175 million made from selling Ampere GPUs to ETH miners, it is no wonder that Nvidia may want to restart that line of business again.
