Optimism Confirms Upgrades Enabling “One-Click” Roll-up Deployment

The team behind Optimism plans for Ethereum-native protocols to be able to be released on its network in a single click by the end of the next month.

“Any tooling that can run on Ethereum will run identically on Optimistic Ethereum. Anyone who has written code targeting Geth can now deploy without change — even for advanced features like traces and gas.”

The team revealed that Optimism revamped its code as a way of extending beyond Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility in order to reach “EVM equivalence” via shrinking the protocol down to the most lightweight and efficient version available.

For this, the custom compiler of Optimism was deleted alongside over “25,000 lines” of other code.

“Building an EVM-compliant rollup poses an even greater challenge: supporting the entire Ethereum stack within the new science. Re-implementing security-critical EVM features is costly; every additional line of code introduces the risk of vulnerabilities.”

Full EVM equivalence was reached through the Geth Ethereum client, and now, the team wants to create compatibility with alternative node implementations like OpenEthereum and Erigon with less than 1,000 lines of code.

The team also confirmed that the security model didn’t go through any other changes during this release.
