Play-to-Earn Guild of Guardians Raises $5.3M

A soon-to-be-released NFT based mobile role-playing game, called Guild of Guardians, has already sold out two tranches of GEMS, its native token, for a total of $5.3 million.

The token sale took place on Coinlist on November 30th and was oversubscribed 82 times, with about 808,000 users managing to register. Over 10,700 new GEM holders, coming from more than 100 countries, bought a maximum of $500 worth of tokens. People from the US, Canada, China, and Australia weren’t allowed to take part in the token purchase as a result of the increased regulatory concerns.

GOG put 6% of 1 billion total tokens to the CoinList sale. 63% of the supply will be offered through community-driven events, activities, and core gameplay.

The game is scheduled to be released in Q1 2022. 400,000 users have pre-registered already for the launch.

GOG was created by Ukrainian developer Stepico in collaboration with Immutable X, an Australian-based NFT layer 2 scaling solution. Immutable X is known for being the first layer 2 scaling solution for NFTs on Ethereum and enjoys backing from Coinbase and Galaxy Digital.

Nicholas Kelland, the Head of Marketing at Immutable, stated that GOG would be released on mobile to make it accessible to a larger number of people:

“Not everyone has really robust gaming rigs and PCs and so on and so forth. So mobile was an easy choice for us.”

The successful initial DEX offering for GOG is a result of the growing popularity of play-to-earn games. In the case of GOG, all in-game assets owned are tradable and exchangeable as an NFT.

“I think the concept of in-game asset ownership is a foregone conclusion. And it’s a matter of when not if. It goes back to the concept of the content creator economy and people, people basically owning this stuff that they deserve to own.”
