Randi Zuckerberg Thinks “WEB2.7” Is More Likely to Occur Than the Total “Chaos” That Is WEB3

Web3 is not as close as many people may imagine, according to Randi Zuckerberg, the founder, and CEO of the production firm and marketing consultant Zuckerberg Media and sister of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

On August 17, Zuckerberg discussed the condition of Web3 and the fact that it is still more of a concept, an “ideal utopia,” than a functioning product. Zuckerberg was speaking at the Global Supertrends Conference 2022.

“What’s happening, in reality, is chaos.”

One of the original Meta (previously Facebook) staff members observed that Web3 suffers from being overly complicated and requiring too many steps to enter, a problem that has been hotly debated in the sector.

“It should not take 45 steps to set up a cryptocurrency wallet, buy a currency and enter the metaverse. It needs to [be] one-stop, beginner-friendly.”

Zuckerberg also discussed the metaverse, one of the most popular Web3 trends. She voiced concerns about the separation of metaverses created by various companies.

Randi thinks that the existing metaverses present a barrier to further development because they do not interact with one another.

“Right now, I’m on Decentraland, my son is on Roblox, my other son is on Fortnite. That’s great — we’re all in the metaverse. [But] we have no interaction with one another. In order to really unlock the potential [of Web3], we’re going to need to figure out a system where there’s interoperability. What you have goes with you wherever you are, [and] we’re not there yet.”

Zuckerberg further added: “I think we will wind up [with] web2.7, where there is some centralization, keeping people safe, but the ability to port your assets with you to any site.”
