Harvey Finkelstein, the president of Shopify, revealed yesterday that the company would permit merchants to sell NFTs on the platform directly to their customers.
The announcement was made via a Tweet. Finkelstein mentioned that before this decision was made, merchants had to sell NFTs via a third-party marketplace, which means they didn’t have any control of the sale and the customer relationship.
He declared: “Once again we are putting the power back into the hands of merchants and meeting customers how and where they want to buy.”
The Chicago Bulls will become one of the first Shopify merchants to offer NFTs through its NFT “Legacy Collection.”
Shopify is powering e-commerce websites of more than 1.7 million businesses around the globe, which means that this decision could make NFT be adopted by more people.
