Video game developer and publisher Epic has confirmed that it will begin accepting games that are built using blockchain technology. Meanwhile, online gaming store Steam said yesterday that it will ban applications “built on blockchain technology that issue or allow the exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.”
Epic, on the other hand, is “open to games that support cryptocurrency or blockchain-based assets.”
The CEO and founder of Epic, Tim Sweeney, tweeted:
“Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Epic’s not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance.”
There was no official confirmation for why Steam was banning blockchain-based games.
