Madonna recently purchased a Bored Ape NFT for more than half a million dollars.
Madonna, the best-selling female artist of all time, revealed on Thursday evening on Instagram that she had “entered the metaverse” by purchasing Bored Ape #4988, a cartoon monkey with crazy fur and a “S&M cap.”
She congratulated MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payments company that has been buying big ticket NFTs on behalf of celebrities since late last year, in the post.
MoonPay bought Madonna’s Bored Ape for 180 ether (about $564,000) last week, according to transaction records on OpenSea, the NFT marketplace. The item was subsequently transferred to a wallet probably held by Madonna just two days ago, according to the business.
MoonPay moved Bored Ape #1506 to another wallet shortly after. That item, a leopard-furred ape with an eyepatch, has since become Wiz Khalifa’s Twitter profile image.
Yuga Labs, the business behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection, is experiencing a busy period as a result of the new endorsements. In addition to receiving a $450 million investment from venture capitalists earlier this week, it has now launched a new currency and is ready to launch a metaverse game project.
Madonna’s newest release, a remix of her smash hit “Frozen” is now available for streaming.
