The second-largest US-based mortgage lender, United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM), has confirmed it will accept crypto payments this year. The first crypto to be accepted will be Bitcoin.
The CEO of the company, Mat Ishbia, confirmed this during a conference call on UWM’s Q2 results. The company registered a net profit of $138.7 for the quarter.
He declared:
“We’re excited that hopefully (this year) we can actually execute on that before anyone in the country.”
He also said that the change would probably take place in late Q3 or early Q4.
“I think we’re starting with Bitcoin, but we’re looking at Ethereum and others. We’re going to walk before we run, but at the same time, we are definitely a leader in technology and innovation and we are always trying to be the best and the leader in everything we do. That’s the plan. Obliviously there are no guarantees — we’re still working through some details.”
