Digital Estate Sells for $1.5M in ETH, Breaking NFT Record

A piece of virtual property has sold for $1.5M in ETH on Monday. The Axie Infinity virtual land smashed the NFT record since, at the time of the purchase, the 888.25 ETH paid for the virtual estate totaled $1.5 million.

The purchase was made at around 23:00 UTC on Monday, and the buyer, ”Flying Falcon,” is one of the newest members of the gaming platform. What’s makes this transaction stand out is that it supersedes the “Citadel of the Sun” purchase, an NFT that was bought for $800,000 by Polyient Games from Gala Games

The Axie Infinity Genesis estate purchase thus becomes the largest NFT transaction in history. These non-fungible token are supply-capped virtual plots that have unique aesthetic features as well as prime positioning within the gaming platform. They will be used for Axie Land, also known as Project K, which is a new game mode.

The buyer is not new to this type of purchase as he is also the one who purchased a rare Hashmasks digital artwork last week. The NFT-based artwork was bought for 420 ETH or roughly $650,000.

“What we’re witnessing is a historic moment; the rise of digital nations with their own system of clearly delineated, irrevocable property rights.” – the buyer said

According to CoinDesk, the Flying Falcon also stated that “as the largest digital land sale ever, this marks a significant development in the short history of NFTs,” and that “virtual economies will be the new frontier for an increasingly digital world.”
