Drake Loses Plenty of Bitcoin After a Formula One Bet Backfires

Canadian rapper Drake lost around $230,000 in Bitcoin after he placed a wager on Charles Leclerc to win the Spanish Grand Prix.

Last Sunday’s Formula One Spanish Grand Prix did not go as planned for Leclerc and Ferrari supporters. Despite starting first, the Monegasque driver was forced to retire owing to engine problems.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull, Leclerc’s main title contender, won the Grand Prix and took the lead in the championship.

Drake revealed on his Instagram story before the race that he had staked $230,000 on Leclerc’s victory. Stake, a crypto-accepting sports betting platform, was used to place the wager. While Drake’s story about his Stake bet appears to be an advertorial collaboration, its ups and downs make it all the more riveting.

If Leclerc had finished first, he would have earned $353,000 in Bitcoin, the currency used in the transaction. The rapper, on the other hand, lost his entire wager.

While the sum lost is significant by conventional standards, Drake probably won’t cry too much about it. Last year, the artist’s net worth was estimated to be $200 million. Furthermore, he has already performed admirably in earlier BTC bets.
