Fireblocks Appoints a Former Bank of England Director to the CBDC Board

Varun Paul, the former head of fintech at the Bank of England (BoE), has joined the digital asset security firm Fireblocks as the CBDC and Market Infrastructure director.

Paul’s extensive expertise working with the Bank of England would benefit Fireblock’s efforts to establish infrastructure for CBDC integration, according to an official press statement issued today.

Paul quit the banking institution after more than 13 years to join a crypto business, as CryptoPotato first reported in April. He had a variety of posts at the Bank of England, including leading the bank’s fintech hub.

The former Bank of England chief will work with market infrastructure organizations and central banks as they begin to use digital assets and their underlying technologies on a greater scale in his new post at Fireblock.

He’ll also assist the company in evaluating the potential benefits of participating in the DeFi industry, as well as training key decision-makers on safe and scalable digital asset transaction solutions.

“Fireblocks is the clear leader when it comes to providing secure, scalable technologies for digital asset and crypto-forward businesses. Financial innovation in CBDC, DeFi, and tokenization is rapidly accelerating, and my new role at Fireblocks allows me the privilege and opportunity to work alongside some of the most forward-thinking organizations in the world as they prepare for one of the sector’s greatest transformations,” he declared.”
