Man Pleads Guilty to Trying to Bribe Worker With BTC in Would-Be Extortion Attempt

A Russian citizen has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to hack a US company’s computer network after he tried to bribe an employee with Bitcoin in a failed extortion attempt.

The man, Egor Igorevich Kriuchkov, aged 27, traveled to the US in order to find an employee for his scheme to introduce malware into the network of a yet unnamed company.

The US Justice Department announced yesterday that Kriuchkov had spoken with the employee and tried to offer him Bitcoin for committing the illegal deed.

It is known that the defendant had made several trips between California and Nevada in the summer of 2020 in his tries to win the employee over. Finally, the employee reported Kriuchkov to the employer, who then went to the FBI.

Kriuchkov pleaded guilty to the crime of conspiracy to intentionally cause damage to a protected computer and will receive his sentence on May 10th.
