Parag Agrawal Is the New CEO of Twitter – What Does He Think of Crypto?

The CEO of Twitter, Jark Dorsey, has stepped down and was replaced by Twitter CTO Parag Agrawal, who has been working with the company since 2011.

Agrawal has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and became the company’s “first Distinguished Engineer due to his work across revenue and consumer engineering.”

Of course, everybody in the crypto community wants to know one thing: where does he stand on crypto?

Dorsey was known for being a supporter of Bitcoin and less so for altcoins. Square, another company run by Dorsey, allows Bitcoin to be used for purchases on its Cash App. Also, in November, its super secretive TBD division released a white paper that talked about a decentralized exchange for Bitcoin without any mention of any other cryptos: “All of the other coins, for me, don’t factor in at all,” Jack was quoted as saying.

Parag Agrawal and Crypto

An anonymous source declared:

“Parag has been integral to Bluesky (the decentralized protocol project), so safe to say he’s a crypto believer. And even if he weren’t, Twitter needs audience and engagement growth, and crypto is a super-vital community to that.”

Agrawal has, so far, mentioned Bitcoin only once on Twitter: in a November 2019 post regarding a Bitcoin meetup in Nigeria, which used a fire emoji to highlight the importance of crypto for the country.

In August of this year, he announced via Twitter that Jay Graber, the former Zcash core developer, would be the head of Bluesky. A couple of weeks ago, in November, he greeted former Tendermint Core VP of Engineering Tess Rinearson as the head of Twitter’s crypto engineering team and retweeted the endorsement of other people of decentralized protocols.

Rinearson and the Twitter Crypto team have been working under Agrawal since, including on the idea of the app allowing people to tip in Bitcoin and “explore NFTs for authentication.”

So it seems that people around Agrawal are Bitcoin and crypto supporters – now we are just waiting to see if he will come out as a supporter as well.
