Walmart Installs 200 Bitcoin ATMs and Has Plans for a Total of 8,000

Walmart began a collaboration with coin-cashing machine company Coinstar and crypto-cash exchange CoinMe in order to install 200 Bitcoin ATMs in its American stores.

The pilot includes just 200 kiosks, but the final plan is for Walmart to host 8,000 Bitcoin ATMs across the United States. Other details regarding this aren’t known at the moment.

As of now, there are more than 25,000 bitcoin ATMs at select grocery stores and service stations in the country. Coinstar is in charge of 4,400 kiosks in 33 states.

Sam Doctor, the CSO and head of research at BitOoda, said: “Walmart expands Bitcoin access to more people, though, and gives it further legitimacy among skeptics, should they roll it out beyond an initial pilot.”

At the moment, users aren’t allowed to withdraw Bitcoin from their account, and it is not known currently if there are plans for this.

While the news was received with open arms by some, seeing it as a sign of adoption, others have complained about the high fees.
