Coinbase Owns 11% of Entire Crypto Capitalization

Crypto data aggregator Messari has announced that the number of crypto assets that are stored in the custody of Coinbase has increased in Q4 2020.

It was divulged that somewhere around 11% of the entire crypto market capitalization belonged to Coinbase Custody at the end of 2020. Coinbase offers custody services for more than 90 crypto assets – about half of them are also tradable on its exchange.

The value of those assets grew to around $90 billion in Q4 2020 since the combined crypto capitalization more than doubled to reach $780 billion by this year.

Coinbase Custody may include a large number of assets, but Bitcoin and Ethereum dominate them all – both, combined, represent around 83% of the cryptocurrencies held with Coinbase.

Bitcoin remained at the 70% level of the assets at Coinbase while Ethereum grew to 13% from 9% between 2019 and 2020.

Christanto declared that 95% of Coinbase trading revenues come from retail clients – they pay 30 times more compared to institutional customers.
