Ukraine Spends $54M in Crypto Donations on Military Equipment

According to a senior official, the beleaguered Ukrainian government has spent $54 million that was obtained through crypto donations to provide the defenders with weapons, armor, clothing, supplies, and vehicles.

According to a statement on his verified Twitter account by Mykhailo Fedorov, the vice prime minister of Ukraine and minister of digital transformation, Ukraine spent the most on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at $11.8 million.

The nation spent $5.7 million on computer gear and software, and $6.9 million on armored vests.

The grants were made possible thanks to Aid For Ukraine, a project of Everstake, FTX, and the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Aid For Ukraine collaborates with FTX, which translates the crypto donations received into fiat and forwards them to the National Bank of Ukraine.

In order to legalize cryptocurrencies in a nation that has been receiving millions in crypto donations for military and humanitarian aid in its conflict with Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine signed a virtual assets bill into law in March.
